Exploring Hashimoto's
About Hashimoto’s:
Hashimoto’s Disease, also referred to as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, is an autoimmune condition in which your immune system attacks your thyroid, inhibiting proper thyroid functioning. In a majority of cases, Hashimoto’s Disease results in hypothyroidism, AKA under-active functioning of the thyroid. This means that the thyroid fails to produce adequate thyroid hormones. Like many autoimmune conditions, it can often take years for patients to be correctly diagnosed with Hashimoto’s.
It’s important to recognize the common symptoms of Hashimoto’s Disease, as well as the risk factors that can increase your chance of developing Hashimoto’s.
Symptoms:
-
Unexplained Fatigue
-
Increased sensitivity to cold
-
Facial inflammation
-
Brittle nails
-
Hair loss
-
Joint pain
-
Muscle weakness
-
Constipation
The exact cause of autoimmune disorders like Hashimoto’s Disease is unknown. Potential risk factors that can increase your risk of developing Hashimoto’s Disease includes: your family history of thyroid conditions, family history of autoimmune conditions, currently having another autoimmune condition (such as Rheumatoid Arthritis or Lupus), your age, and sex (“Hashimoto’s disease,” 2020).
For many with Hashimoto's, supplements like Vitamin D3 K2 and Ultra Omega have helped to minimize inflammation in the body. Leaky gut syndrome commonly occurs in conjunction with Hashimoto's. If you have leaky gut, supporting your GI health with Gut Permeability Factors can be an excellent starting point in addressing your condition.
